We believe it is important for us to do everything we can to consider the planet and people first, ahead of any profits made. It is one of the values we are most proud of and it will start with us running Love Bug Foods as sustain as we can, choosing that option wherever possible, whilst also acknowledging, that at times, we won’t be able to do that – but in those occasions, we will constantly come back to that decision, in hope that the more sustainable option can soon be taken.

Carbon Neutral Business

We are very proud to partner with ‘Carbon Neutral Britain’ to offset our carbon footprint. This means that each month we will offset 5 tonnes of carbon and 30 trees will be planted on our behalf, in sustainable projects around the world. But as nice as this is, we will continue to strive to reduce our emissions in the hope that in the future Love Bug Foods is a net zero carbon emissions business.

Packaging

What a minefield…we are wanting our packaging to be as eco-friendly as possible – biodegradable if we can source it, but after attending a packaging show at the NEC, we quickly realised the complications involved.We learnt that of our household recyclable bin rubbish, only 8% is actually recycled – we were absolutely staggered, and it comes down to elements of packaging being recyclable and elements not. Unfortunately, as consumers, we are not advised enough to really remove the possible recyclable parts from the impossible ones……so as they enter the plant they get separated off to the non-recyclable section.

This combined with the further education we gained around biodegradable packaging……which as it turns out is far more complex, because you need the recycling plant, which your biodegradable packaging goes to, to be set up to dispose of that packaging correctly and sadly the majority of them are not!

We were advised that the best packaging option now is “100% recycled” which is using previous recycled products and will ensure it can be 100% recyclable again, therefore, we are guaranteeing that no additional plastic is generated because of our packaging.

Picking the right suppliers is critical to the success of any business, we will be picking suppliers who reflect our values. We will look to work with suppliers who are equally striving to become more sustainable, who are local to us, where possible, to reduce our carbon footprint and who equally operate a small business – linking with our main value, which is to put the planet and people before profit.
