What does it mean to be a Carbon Neutral Business? Great question Huh, one that I have asked myself a few times and have needed to do some real digging to get to the bottom of.
Being a ‘Carbon Neutral Business’ means that businesses like us at Love Bug Foods offset their carbon footprint. In basic terms, any Co2 which is released into the air from a business is accounted for and then measures can be taken by the businesses to offset it. For example, by planting trees. Tree and forest areas absorb Co2 and therefore offset the Co2 which has been created by the business.
At Love Bug Foods, we are very proud to partner with ‘Carbon Neutral Britain’ to offset our carbon footprint. This means that each month 30 trees will be planted on our behalf, in sustainable projects around the world.
So over year that would equate to 360 Trees being planted in sustainable projects around the world. That’s equivalent to 1.5 acres of the Amazon Rainforest.
Why is it important to offset your carbon footprint? In a nutshell, for us, it’s about taking responsibility and being accountable for our business carbon footprint. To reduce the impact that our choices are making on the planet.
Why offset your carbon footprint instead of not having any carbon footprint to begin with? Honestly, we are not ready for that yet. I would be delighted to be able to run a Carbon Net Zero business, but the reality is that there isn’t a way that we could do that at this stage due to a combination of reasons: money, logistics, red tape and technology, having said that, I think the key thing to remember here that it is always something that Love Bug Foods will strive for. We will continue to strive and make better choices where we can, to ensure we continue to lower our emissions and impact on the world.
One step at a time and keep pushing forward.
